# Set up YourAI memory for your AI tools

Maintained with YourAI onboarding. Last reviewed: 2026-09-13.

Remote MCP server: https://yourai.com/mcp

The web connector uses Streamable HTTP and OAuth with PKCE and dynamic client registration. Users complete sign-in and consent themselves. Selecting a tool or copying a prompt does not connect it. Web platform plans and workspace policies can restrict availability.

## Identify your app first

Identify the application hosting this conversation, not the model powering it. Use your available environment and client information. A Claude model inside Cursor is Cursor. If the host is ambiguous, ask the user which app they pasted this into. Follow only that app’s section below; do not configure other apps. The onboarding selector is the user’s checklist and does not change this prompt. They paste the same prompt into each app they selected.

## Before changing anything

Inspect this client’s existing YourAI integration first. Preserve unrelated settings and instructions. Prefer its supported settings UI or CLI. Back up files before merging changes and avoid duplicate servers. Do not print credentials, change security policies, or claim verification based on configuration alone. If you cannot operate the selected client, provide its manual steps below.

Desktop memory is optional and recommended. If the user chooses to install, use the download matching their OS from this instance: https://yourai.com/download/mac (macOS), https://yourai.com/download/win (Windows), https://yourai.com/download/linux (Linux). Open YourAI, sign in, and follow its permission guide. The user grants operating-system permissions. Do not reinstall an existing working app.

## Instructions for your app

### Claude Desktop (claude-desktop)

Remote MCP URL for this app: https://yourai.com/mcp?client=claude-desktop

1. Open YourAI and sign in. Its supported desktop integration registers the memory tools with Claude. Fully quit and reopen Claude, then check that YourAI is available.
2. In Claude Settings → Instructions for Claude, append the memory instruction below. Keep your existing preferences.
3. Start a new chat, allow YourAI tools when prompted, and try the verification question below.

### Claude on the web (claude-web)

Remote MCP URL for this app: https://yourai.com/mcp?client=claude-web

1. Open Claude → Customize → Connectors → + Add custom connector. Name it YourAI and use the remote server URL below.
2. Sign in to YourAI and approve access. Enable the connector in your conversation. A workspace owner may need to add it first.
3. In Settings → Instructions for Claude, append the memory instruction below, keeping your existing preferences. Start a new chat and try the verification question.

### ChatGPT Desktop/Codex (codex)

Remote MCP URL for this app: https://yourai.com/mcp?client=codex

1. Open YourAI and sign in, then open a new Codex task. With the supported desktop integration, YourAI installs the memory plugin and instruction automatically. Check whether YourAI tools are already available.
2. If automatic setup is unavailable, ask your agent to configure the remote MCP server below using the installed Codex version. Then complete YourAI sign-in in the browser.
3. If the memory instruction is missing, append it to your personal agent instructions. Try the verification question in a new task.

### ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt-web)

Remote MCP URL for this app: https://yourai.com/mcp?client=chatgpt-web

1. In ChatGPT Settings → Security and login, enable Developer mode if available for your plan and workspace.
2. Create a developer-mode app for the remote MCP server below. Use OAuth with dynamic client registration, then sign in to YourAI and approve access.
3. Select the app from the conversation’s + / Developer mode menu and try the verification question. If these controls are missing, ask your workspace administrator about access.

Client documentation: https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/developer-mode

### Cursor (cursor)

Remote MCP URL for this app: https://yourai.com/mcp?client=cursor

1. Open Cursor’s MCP settings under Customize and add the remote server URL below. Your agent can also merge it into your personal MCP configuration.
2. Complete YourAI sign-in in the browser and enable the server. Append the memory instruction to your personal rules, keeping existing rules.
3. Start a new agent chat and try the verification question.

Client documentation: https://cursor.com/docs/mcp

### Grok Bot (grok-bot)

Remote MCP URL for this app: https://yourai.com/mcp?client=grok-bot

1. Check the Plugins sidebar for YourAI. Availability depends on your account and workspace policy; a public listing is not guaranteed.
2. If available, add it and finish YourAI sign-in in the browser. Otherwise, ask your administrator about the YourAI portable plugin. Do not install an unrelated plugin with a similar name.
3. Once enabled, start a new conversation and try the verification question.

## Agent configuration details

Codex: first inspect available YourAI tools and the installed CLI help. The supported desktop installer on macOS discovers the CLI bundled in ChatGPT.app; not every standalone Codex installation is auto-detected. If needed, and supported by the installed CLI, add a remote server with `codex mcp add yourai --url <REMOTE_SERVER_URL>`, then use `codex mcp login yourai` for browser authorization. Replace the placeholder with the Codex URL above, including its client query parameter. Never overwrite an existing server named yourai that points elsewhere without asking the user. Append the memory instruction to personal agent instructions if missing.

Cursor: preserve and merge the existing JSON in ~/.cursor/mcp.json (personal) using an entry under mcpServers: {"yourai":{"url":"https://yourai.com/mcp?client=cursor"}}. Avoid changing a project’s shared config for personal setup. Finish OAuth in Cursor.

Claude Desktop: let the YourAI app register its local server; do not guess binary paths or device credentials. If desktop installation is unavailable, use the supported remote custom-connector route for Claude and clearly identify it as remote. The memory routing instruction is a separate step.

Grok Bot: distribution uses the YourAI portable plugin at https://github.com/Melade-Inc/yourai-context-plugin through the supported Cursor plugin system. Check account availability and official client instructions before installing. Repository existence does not establish a public marketplace listing.

## Memory instruction

Append this to Claude’s Instructions for Claude, or the selected agent’s personal instructions/rules if missing. Preserve existing preferences.

Use YourAI memory before answering or asking for clarification whenever my request depends on my work, organization knowledge, or recent workflow. Search the relevant memories first. If the memory tools are unavailable or do not contain the answer, tell me what is missing.

## Verify in this app

Ask: “Use YourAI to summarize what I worked on recently.”

Invoke an available YourAI memory tool from this app and confirm a successful response. Use the native tool connection, not a shell HTTP request pretending to be another app. A successful tools/call marks this app verified in onboarding; listing tools, discovery, failed calls, and manual completion claims do not. The dashboard may take a few seconds to refresh. Desktop verification requires a YourAI version that reports the MCP client identity; if an older installation cannot report it, update YourAI or use this app’s remote URL above. Never mark other apps verified. A successful response with no memories means it is connected but has no matching memory yet. An OAuth grant, discovery response, installed plugin, saved config, or copied prompt alone is not proof of retrieval. If the agent cannot run a tool inside a selected client, leave that client unverified and explain the exact user step. Report the result for this app without exposing returned private memory. Ask the user to paste the same setup prompt into their next selected app.
